Collaboration By Design
From all corners of Australia and New Zealand, MSI Member firms descended upon the tropical island of Fiji, home to MSI firm AP Legal, for the 2nd of our local member meetings for 2019, where our theme was Collaboration By Design.
Collaboration is often used more in presentations than practice, and usually done without intention, so we took the challenge of collaborating by design. Aside from recapping on the last 6 months of business, our first port of call was to engross ourselves in the complex world of Pharmacy, with a keynote presentation from Matthew Harris (MSI Taylor, Brisbane) and share our collective expertise in the industry. There was so much excitement around a nation-wide opportunity to support various pharmacy franchises; so we designed a collaborative plan to roll out in the coming months (stay tuned!).
Next up on our agenda was a roundtable discussion about the current landscape in the Law and Accounting industries, with deep dialogue on market trends and best practice on everything from Single Touch Payroll (STP) and emerging technologies to offshoring and talent retention.
We began day 2 with an update from the MSI global office CEO, Tim Wilson, to recap the last 6 months of activity, and align our focus for the next year and beyond. This included details about the International Sydney 2020 conference and progress on our collaborative goals.
After an in depth presentation and interactive discussion on Marketing best practices for professional services firms by Tom Wilson and Rory Pearson from Adama Digital, the firms caught up on their individual business highlights, obstacles and opportunities. This flowed nicely into a presentation from the local MSI member firm, AP Legal, discussing opportunities in Fiji. This included a deep dive into foreign investment which has formed the beginnings of collaboration with Johnston Withers, a South Australia based law firm with specialties in Native Title land.
With two days of collaboration in the back pocket, it was time to wind down for the week, and celebrate with an AUS NZ and Fiji MSI-themed wine journey, tasting wines from some of the most popular wineries we have to offer.
We expressed our appreciation for the conference organisers, and the value we derive from connecting with MSI Members from across the APAC region. Everyone is looking forward to the next chance to meet, and progressing the many opportunities for Collaborating by Design.
